Brisbane's top eight hopes dented 27 July 2010
Broncos stage a remarkable NRL second half fightback but fall just short against the Roosters, who won 34-30
The Sydney Roosters won a remarkable NRL contest against Brisbane with centre Shaun Kenny-Dowall scoring four tries in the high-paced 34-30 victory at Suncorp Stadium.
Kenny-Dowall's fourth try regained the lead for the Roosters after the Broncos had staged a stunning comeback from 28-6 down in the second half to lead 30-28 following a hotly disputed try to prop Nick Kenny. The Roosters were red hot in the opening half, sparked by stand-in halfback Todd Carney. Broncos captain Darren Lockyer describes Carney as inspirational.
Roosters captain Jason Ryles says the young players in the team stepped up in the absence of playmaker Mitchell Pearce. Ryles says they rely very heavily on Pearce, so they will take a lot of confidence out of the match that they hung on to win without him.
The win puts the Roosters into third on the points table and leaves Brisbane stuck in ninth, outside the top eight on points differential.
The Warriors are sixth.
