When Stacey Jones had his left arm broken playing for the Kiwis against Tonga late last year, the Warriors knew they had to do something about their back-up at halfback. The search for a replacement took them to Queensland and the former Glenora scrumhalf Ben Lythe. The Warriors not only landed a handy option for the No 7 jersey but also a player who can run at hooker - and another superboot. Lythe was just sensational in his last year with Glenora in 1998, guiding it to the Auckland championship with a haul of 324 points (more than 130 clear of the next best on the points-scoring list). And in only five games for Auckland in the National Provincial Competition, he amassed another 98 points. That won him a contract with Burleigh in the Queensland Cup where he finished up in another premiership-winning side. And again he was the primary points provider going well past the 200 mark.
