 Odell Manuel

D.O.B: 12 January 1978
Place of Birth: NZ
Former Clubs: Otahuhu Club
Weight: 99 kg
Height: 185 cm
A runaway choice as the Warriors' Rookie of the Year in 1999. A Junior Kiwi in 1997, he was another player earmarked for big things. His chance came when Mark Graham arrived as the Warriors' new coach - and Manuel didn't waste it. He worked his way into the starting line-up for the season-opener against Sydney City and never relinquished his right winger's spot. In fact, he was one of only three players who started all 24 of the Warriors' games (the others being Stacey Jones and Logan Swann). Not as quick as the club's top speedster Lee Oudenryn but a strong runner whose power surprised sides early in the season, especially when he returned kicks. Had previous experience in the centres but has become an out-and-out winger for the Warriors. Scored the first of his nine tries in the round three clash against Manly and was a regular scoring threat throughout the season. Had to work on his positional play, especially on defence, but still had an outstanding debut year. Was given the hurry-up by Mark Graham in the offseason, the coach ticking him off for his attitude to training. But he intensified his effort and regained his place for the key trial against Canberra, scoring one of the Warriors' tries in their 22-8 win.
